Antique 18thC Armorial Lion Ducal Noble Coronet Heraldry Silk Embroidered Panel
Antique 18thC Armorial Lion Ducal Noble Coronet Heraldry Silk Embroidered Panel. Today we are delighted to present for sale an outstanding antique European Ducal heraldic silk embroidery! This fine, museum-quality, raised embroidery panel is of utmost quality and beauty, and one of the best examples we have ever seen. The piece is most likely of English noble origin, and very similar to the. Lord Chancellor’s Burse (Purse) with Royal Cypher and Coat of Arms of George III – 1700s. At the Cleveland Art Museum. The embroidery is luxuriously crafted and detailed, with meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship. The piece is embroidered on a plain cream silk ground and features a center raided cushioned oval medallion, with blue and cream checkered ground overlaid with a heraldic Lion holding an olive branch, and surmounted by six flags on poles with crosses and Latin inscriptions. The bottom of the medallion is adorned with two anchors and three hanging medals: one featuring a galloping horse with rider, one with the crowned profile of a monarch, and one with a Maltese cross. The top is crowned with a ducal coronet with three fully visible strawberry leaves upon the rim and a sword handle on either side. The embroidery features fine silk and metallic gilt threading. The reverse side features pink silk plain covering and still retains the top hanging thread and metal holding bar. This panel was most likely the front panel of a two-piece purse. The piece presents well and is in good antique condition, with wear and patina commensurate with age. There is minor fading, fraying, and soiling of fabric. Pink silk back covering and hanging string are partially loose. This very rare heraldic embroidery panel will make a crowning addition to any antique Royal and Noble artifact collection.
