Pair Of 17th Century Italian Silk And Metallic Thread Anitque Pillows
Pair Of 17th Century Italian Silk And Metallic Thread Anitque Pillows. T hese pillows were created from a 17th century altar piece that was rescued from a Chapel in Livorno Italy during the Second World War. T he embroidery depicts carnations and tulips executed in pure silk in the style of the Dutch painters of the time. The arabesques are embroidered of metallic threads and are sewn in painstaking detail and is high Baroque. The needle painting stitches mimic the brush strokes of the Dutch masters. I believe the embroidery is by the Carmelite order of Sisters. It can be estimated that a full altar piece such as this one can take up to ten years complete. P lease look at the images for details. T he embroidery is in good condition as is the cotton silk ground. T he filling has been replaced with down recently. O ne pillow is 12 x 20 and the other is 12 x 18.
