A Beautiful and Large Antique Chinese Silk Embroidery. (19th Century, Qing Dynasty). This is a large and highly attractive Chinese textile embroidery. This long, continuous landscape panel was probably originally designed as an Altar cloth or to cover the surface of a similar piece of furniture. The charming scene depicts high-ranking children at play and at various pursuits, under the watch of an adult, all set within an island setting amid a flowing river and flowering boughs of tree peony. They have been rendered in finely worked silk threads against a red damask background, which features the repetitive design of double gourd. To the reverse of the panel is a green damask, featuring stylised geometric floral and swastika patterns. A beautiful, impressive, long and large panel – it should delight it’s new owner. Approximately 50 cms x 200 cms. Fair but not perfect. Overall the colours are still good. Some fading to red damask to an orange colour in places and some minor discolouration. In the case of the trees and the boughs, there would seem to be some apparent loss to the design in places: some branches appear missing. It might be the piece was never originally fully completed. There is a signed area in ink (please see close up shot). Some marking in places and some minor rips / holes – but these are minor and do not detract too much. To the back, there is a small green damask patch to the edge and also a few minor holes and marks and general age-related wear. More pictures available upon request. Any questions, please feel free to ask. All items are packed with care, to a high standard and sent via tracked and signed for courier. Arrived on time and as described. If I could leave a million stars, I would. SUPERB: accurately described, well packed and sent quickly – highly recommended! IF THERE WAS A SCORE HIGHER THAN 5 STARS THIS EBAYER WOULD DESERVE IT A++++. Superb communication, very honest and helpful. Many thanks for looking!
