Antique Silk Embroidered Mourning Picture Sampler Connecticut 1800s Large Size
Rare and early piece. Dating to roughly late 1700s, early 1800s is this silk embroidered and painted mourning picture sampler. Constructed of painted silk and with finely stitched detailing, it depicts a mother and father under a weeping willow tree looking at the tomb of their child alongside the figure of Hope with an anchor and pointing to the sky. Has had some restoration work done in the past and includes paperwork and provenance tracing it to New Haven, Connecticut. Very large size measuring roughly 22 x 24. Has minor damage from age as shown so look at photographs to help judge condition. Would look amazing in a period correct frame. A stunning piece to add to any collection.
