Rare Antique 18thc Silk Embroidered Needlework Tapestry Sampler World Map
Up for your consideration is this rare late 18 century antique silk needlework, sampler embroidery or embroidered world map of two hemisphere. If you do a little homework you can see what these maps bring, and how difficult they are to find. I wish I could say that this is perfect but it is not. It has some tears throughout, and also you can see some discoloration. Please look at my photographs. None of this detracts from the rarity or beauty of this piece. It is embroidered with silk in a running outline, split stem, satin with long and short stitch. It is on a Linen ground. The size with the frame is approximately 22 by a little over 26 inches. The map itself is approximately 17 x 20 1/2 inches. It is stitch in the middle of the upper top, the world with all its discovery. It is wonderfully embroidered with birds and flower decoration.
