Exceptionally Rare Early 18th Century English Silk Brocade Shoes
We are pleased to be offering an exceptional and rare pair of early Georgian era silk brocade shoes. These shoes were manufactured to the highest standards likely using embroidered Spitalfield silk. The style of the day was a large graceful heel of a relatively low height with upturned toe. The point of the toe being accentuated and reinforced by a leather insert. Constructed out of what would have been a cream silk with green and pink embroidery. The lining is a deep yellow linen. The whole being joined by green tape. Leather bottom soles and insoles. The bottom soles showing remains of tool work that was possibly done to provide traction. Measurement from toe to heel is 10 1/2. These shoes are fresh to market and according to the family have been stored in a trunk since at least the middle of the 19th century. While in generally stable condition. These shoes do have condition issues with the silk. As is pictured there is shattering to the silk in places. This more as a result of being stored completely flat than anything else. Please examine the pictures closely to better understand the condition. These are absolutely worthy of professional conservation and/or restoration.
