ANTIQUE QI’ING 19th c CHINESE EMBROIDERED SILK CIVIL RANK BDGE WITH A BIRD! Beautiful antique end of the 19th century Qi’ing dynasty Chinese embroidered silk civil rank badge with a bird, back piece. Features finely embroidered bird standing on a rockery on one leg and surrounded with Buddhist auspicious symbols and clouds. Has stylized border of bats and golden metallic thread Shou signs. All above lishui border with rolling waves; the sun is in the right corner. Worked mostly in golden metallic threads using couching technique and in blue silk threads using satin stitches (bats of the border and clouds). Lined with a red silk lining. The badge measures 12 2/8″ (31 cm) x 11 6/8″ (29.5 cm). Condition : good antique condition overall, considering the old age of the piece, with some pulling to the golden threads of the embroidery here and there and separation along the lower edge of the piece (see pictures).
